Assassin’s Creed Syndicate not impressing on PS4 Pro

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate got the PS4 Pro treatment recently, and unfortunately, it seems the game doesn’t look all that impressive on 4K upscaling.

Digital Foundry took the time to do a side-by-side comparison of the game on PS4 versus PS4 Pro, and their findings were a bit worrisome.

On PS4 Pro, Syndicate runs at 1440×1620, rendering an image that is said to be “really ugly.” They go on to say the upscaling algorithm is “rough,” and checker boarding is present at times.

Check out some of their comments below.

There may be one saving grace to this bummer news.

The game does run at a consistent 30 FPS, and Digital Foundry theorizes that the recent PS4 Pro patch for Syndicate was intended to render the game at 2880×1620, but there may have been an issue with the patch that renders Syndicate at 1440×1620 instead.

In either case, the PS4 Pro “upgrade” has been rather shaky with a few games as of late. Games like The Last of Us and Final Fantasy XV are said to run worse on PS4 Pro, while games like Battlefield 1 and Hitman run significantly better.
