Assassin’s Creed Syndicate’s sales negatively impacted by Unity

"Clearly in our first week we were impacted by what happened with Assassin's Creed Unity," that’s a quote from Ubisoft exec Alain Martinez referring to the slump in sales for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.

However, Martinez remained confident that word of mouth positivity would sustain the title in the long way in a similar fashion that they witnessed with Black Flag. "Versus Unity, Syndicate was down in the first week but nicely outperformed it in its second week as it benefitted from positive word of mouth," agreed Ubisoft head Yves Guillemot.

It’s definitely a feat for a serial franchise like Assassin’s Creed to recover from a previous panned title and approach the next installment with past mistakes in mind and manage to navigate around those same traps, the team at Ubisoft obviously put some solid effort into making that happen.

While no formal numbers have been released regarding Syndicate’s sales metrics, Ubisoft did confirm that second week sales had surpassed those of Unity, though with major launches for Call of Duty, Fallout and Battlefront in subsequent weeks it remains to be seen how much of an upswing that word of mouth will produce.
