Assassin’s Creed is getting a Netflix series! The beloved historical fiction franchise from Ubisoft is making its way to the small screen in a live-action show. Details on the show are scarce as they look for a showrunner, cast, and writers.
“For more than 10 years, millions of fans around the world have helped shape the Assassin’s Creed brand into an iconic franchise,” said Jason Altman, Head of Ubisoft Film & Television – Los Angeles. “We’re thrilled to create an Assassin’s Creed series with Netflix and we look forward to developing the next saga in the Assassin’s Creed universe.”
Netflix has a relatively good history of developing video game shows. From Castlevania and The Witcher (though the show is based on the books), their track record is promising. Netflix is also developing a Resident Evil series, releasing in 2021.

This won’t be the first time Assassin’s Creed has been adapted into live-action. In 2016, we saw the theatrical release of an Assassin’s Creed film starring Michael Fassbender. The film underperformed critically and financially, only getting a small profit. Sequels were canceled following Disney’s acquisition of Fox. It’s unclear if that film is still considered canon to the franchise.
Ubisoft’s press release also re-confirms their commitment to developing adaptations of The Division, Beyond Good and Evil, and Just Dance. The first two will be developed for Netflix and Just Dance will be adapted by Screen Gems. The Division has Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain attached to star alongside former John Wick co-director David Leitch behind the camera.
The newest game in the series, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, releases on November 10th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, and PC. The game will also release on November 12th for PlayStation 5.
