Assassin’s Creed Odyssey to have meaningful choices, a new Game Mode

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is launching in less than a month and Ubisoft is ramping up the promotion with a new trailer today. Power of Choice shows an aspect of Odyssey which is new to the series and could potentially become a major highlight. Similar to other RPGs, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will leave important decisions up to the player, offering choices on relationships, who to fight and who to rescue. Check out the trailer to see some of the meaningful choices in action.

We already knew that Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was going to be unique by offering players the choice of either a male or female protagonist, a series first. The developers went much further than that however by allowing players to romance any gender of their liking as well. This push of the newest Assassin’s Creed game to allow players a very unique and personalized experience is now getting a new facet in form of meaningful dialog choices.

As seen in the trailer, players will decide not only about their own fate but also of others’. Whether it’s protecting prisoners or waging war, it’s up to the player which destiny to pursue. It’s hard to tell before playing the game how deep these choices will affect the overall story but one thing is already certain. Odyssey is shaping up to explore RPG mechanics much deeper than any previous Assassin’s Creed game.

This a great thing for replayability as well which also ties to another new info we learn today. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will offer two gameplay modes, Guided and Exploration. The Guided Mode will offer a more traditional game experience with quest and location markers helping out the player to orientate quickly and find desired targets. The Exploration Mode is the real news here, doing away with immersion-breaking markers, forcing the player to explore the world on themselves and find their goals through exploration. Sounds like a great way to enhance the immersion to the next level.
