Atlus issued a DMCA Takedown notice to emulation group over Persona 5

Today, Atlus issued a DMCA Takedown notice to the creators of RPCS3 over copyright violations for Persona 5. RPCS3 is a popular PlayStation 3 emulation program for PC. The takedown notice came after the RPCS3 creator promoted how the software was compatible with Persona 5. Atlus claimed that this is a transgression of their copyrights and could affect the experience of the customers.

“We don’t want their first experiences to be framerate drops, or crashes, or other issues that can crop up in emulation that we have not personally overseen,” said Atlus in a public statement on their website. “For now, the best way to experience Persona 5 is on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3”.

Since the takedown notice was received, all information regarding Persona 5 and the emulation software have been removed from the RPCS3 website and the Patreon site. While Atlus suggested that the RPCS3 Patreon account be shut down, the Patreon site has remained active.

“We find it very interesting that Atlus would immediately try to shut down the Patreon page without any prior communication,” the developers RPCS3 said in a Reddit post. “Per the request of Patreon, we removed every single reference to Persona 5 on the Patreon page itself and rpcs3.net. This seems to have resolved the situation.”

Prior to this, Atlus put a notice out for all streamers that streaming Persona 5 could risk their streaming accounts.
