The delay will ensure that the anime continues its fast pace, without any 'filler' episodes wasting our time with fluff and pointless interactions.
According to Movie Pilot, the creator of the franchise, Hajime Isayama, and the director of the anime, Tetsuro Araki, believe that the manga should be four story ahead of the anime at all times, so as to keep the anime's pace. At the moment, the manga series is only two story arcs ahead of the series, leaving Tetsuro Araki unable to move forward with the second season.
To have the anime meet the standards set by the previous season, the show will be on hold until the manga progresses and is four story arcs ahead of the anime.
Until then, fans can bury themselves in the weird, yet lighthearted, Junior High spinoff series, the bloody PlayStation exclusive Attack on Titan game, or look for any further information regarding the Netflix anime 'Perfect Bones' that the creators of the series are working on.
