One of the best – if not the best – base-builder in gaming has finally reached its final form. Factorio is now out in version 1.0 on Steam and can be had for a nice round $30. Watch the launch trailer here!
It might sound like hyperbole but the facts don’t lie. With a mindboggling 98% positive Steam user reviews, the proof is in the pudding. Factorio is one of the highest-rated games ever and probably the best base-building game. Period.
Indie developer Wube Software took its nice time to achieve all this with the game being in the proverbial oven for over 8 years by now. A very long time for any game but the passion project really perfected the genre in this time, and as such it’s more than understandable.
It took us 8.5 years. It has been an incredible ride and we have arrived at the destination!
Factorio is leaving early access. This opens the game up to all the players who just don’t play early access games, the same with reviewers who only cover finished games, which is very understandable.
The 2D top-down viewpoint might be off-putting to certain gamers but you really owe it to yourself to give the game a shot. It’s crazy addictive not only to forage for resources but automate that process with various machines. Without you noticing it, there’s already a sprawling network of miners and conveyor belts around you, hence Factorio.
There are 3D indie games that try to offer a similar experience like Satisfactory but Factorio is the progenitor and offers much more depth in the gameplay department, thanks to the longer development time and art style.
