A couple of months ago, actress Sigourney Weaver suggested that the four sequels to Avatar were pushed back. Earlier this month, director James Cameron confirmed that the franchise had been set back, starting with Avatar 2.
It seems as though the film's production is moving forward, despite the delay (it should be noted that that Avatar 2, 3, 4, and 5 are all filming together). The announcement of Avatar 2 entering filming came from Sigourney Weaver.
Avatar 2 is set to begin filming this fall if all goes well and the movie isn't delayed again.
“We’re starting!” said Weaver 'excitedly' during a screening of The Assignment earlier this week. “We’re starting training, and we’re starting — hm, I probably can’t say anything. We will be actually shooting it by the fall.”
Weaver didn't simply leave it at, though, the actress went on to gush about the script to The Hollywood Reporter. According to Weaver, the script is ambitious but worth it.
“I’m telling you, these scripts are so amazing, I’m not worried about [disappointing fans] at all. Am I worried about how we’re going to bring them to life? Yes, because they’re so ambitious. They’re so worth it. They're well worth waiting for. I’m not worried about that at all. We’re trying to get it done as quickly as possible.”
