The follow-up to the 2009 box office hit, Avatar, is set to begin production in August, but it won't be the only Avatar movie in filming. Apparently, the four upcoming Avatar movies are being filmed at the same time – at least according to Sam Worthington who will be reprising his role as Jake Sully in the upcoming Avatar films.
Not only are the four movies filming simultaneously, they will be like "nothing" we have seen before.
"They're going to be shooting concurrently," Worthington said in an interview with We Got This Covered. "The plan is to have some time in between, I think, but these things are always ambiguous until they start. We're still set to start in the summer, though. James needed time to perfect the scripts. Whenever he says jump I go because he's the man. I've read all the scripts. They're great. This film is going to be like nothing you've ever seen."
Worthington went on to expand on what director James Cameron meant when he called the Avatar story a family saga.
"This is going to be Jake [Sully, Worthington's character] eight years later, and he's got a family now'" said Worthington. "The world is bigger than the first one, but essentially, it's a movie about family. Jake will still have that essence of a kid seeing the world for the first time, but he's been living in the world for a while now, so what's this world he's seeing now for the first time? The film will explore that within this family dynamic."
Details on other aspects of the film weren't shared, but it definitely sounds like they are driving the 'family saga' part home.
