Avengers: Age of Ultron’s subtitles don’t make any sense in China

"My old, familiar partner."

Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron blew away the American box office on opening night, pulling in enough money to put it in a record holding position. The film has recently opened in China, and the opening day numbers put it at  biggest ever opening day in the market — but it's leaving movie goers a bit upset.

Movie goer Wo Jiao Sanzhiya to to his Weibo account to reveal the inaccuracies between the subtitles and the film's actual script.

A scene that had Captain America offering advice to his fellow Avengers saying, "You get hurt, hurt 'em back. You get killed… walk it off," the Chinese subtitles had Captain America instead saying, "Run fast if someone tries to kill you." When Iron Man displayed doubt of their survival saying, "We may not make it out of this," the subtitles read "Let's back off now."

Even "son of a b*tch" was lost in translation becoming "my old, familiar partner."

Translator Liu Dayong, who has worked on bringing subtitles to films like Titanic and Avatar, is responsible for translating the dialogue. It's unclear if he simply dislikes the Avengers or if he was unable to properly translate the dialogue.

Marvel has not commented on this.
