Disney and Marvel Studios' The Avengers: Age of Ultron released Thursday night , and it raked in $27.6 million on opening night. It not only beat out its prececessor, The Avengers by quite a bit, but it approached record-breaking numbers.
In May 2012, The Avengers brought in $18.7 million on the first night it released. It went on to bring in a record-setting $207.4 million on its opening weekend. With Age of Ultron taking in around $8.9 million more, you can bet on Ultron bringing in more than The Avengers.
As far as opening night records go, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is holding down top place with $43.5 million, followed by The Dark Knight Rises and movies from the Twilight Saga (they earned about $30 million a piece). Age of Ultron brings up the rear with under $30 million, but that still puts it above tons of other films.
Who's watching Age of Ultron on opening night? So far, 60 percent of the audience has been male, and 45% of ticket buyers are under 25 years-old.
