Avengers: Infinity War has biggest opening weekend of all-time

Avengers: Infinity War has been hyped up as what is arguably the biggest movie of all-time for the better part of a decade. It has all of the biggest characters in fiction on screen together, it’s the culmination of a 19 movie franchise, and it takes the biggest risks. The hype has paid off as it has broken the record of the biggest opening weekend of all-time!

Surpassing Disney’s other franchise, Avengers: Infinity War has broken Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ domestic opening record of $247.9 million with a $250 million + opening (exact numbers have yet to be determined). Overseas, the superhero extravaganza pulled in a whopping $380 million to bring the global total to a staggering $630 million where it puts the previous all-time record holder, Fate of the Furious’ with $543 million, to shame.

The individual breakdown of each day has the film’s Friday opening at $106 million, the biggest Saturday for any movie ever with $83 million, and Sunday is estimated to pull in $61 million. As of right now, it’s hard to say where the film will end up once the film finishes its theatrical run. It’ll likely break the top 10 for highest grossing films of all-time but will it beat out 2012’s The Avengers’ $1.5 billion worldwide box office or can it climb high enough to reach The Force Awakens’ $2.06 billion worldwide box office?

We are still obviously in the very early days and Infinity War has a long summer ahead to keep taking the top spot at the box office with several weeks until Deadpool 2 and Solo: A Star Wars Story hit. The film is currently rumored to have an August home video release so if Marvel plans to keep it in theaters for that long, it could continue to break major records, especially if they keep showcasing their money maker, Black Panther, in the film’s marketing.

Avengers: Infinity War has gotten lots of critical acclaim from fans and critics alike, we gave the film a 9.5 for its willingness to take massive risks, juggle lots of stories without losing focus, and feeling like a true comic-book movie without having to pay homage to classic stories.
