3D Realms has announced the console release date for the hit retro-inspired first-person shooter Ion Fury. Owners of a PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch will finally be able to experience this modern classic next month, May 14th, when it launches digitally. Fans of physical releases will have to wait until June 26th. Here’s the new console trailer!
Ion Fury made big waves on the PC scene last year when it originally came out. The loving recreation of classic 90s FPS games from the likes of Duke Nukem 3D made no secrets about its inspirations. Fast-paced first-person shooting with a great array of satisfying weapons is a no-compromise effort at rejuvenating. All powered by a heavily modified build engine.
While Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison earned her codename defusing bombs for the Global Defense Force, when evil transhumanist mastermind Dr. Jadus Heskel unleashes the members of his cybernetic cult onto the streets of Neo DC, she knows it’s time to start causing explosions instead of preventing them.
Her quest to slay Heskel leaves a trail of carnage throughout huge, multi-path levels filled with gigantic explosions, more secret areas than we can count, and inhuman foes behind every corner. There’s no regenerating health here; stop taking cover and start running and gunning.
So, it comes as great news that console gamers aren’t left in the dust, with the shooter soon making its way onto all consoles. Ion Fury will be available digitally next month already with a physical release following one month later. But hey, since everyone is already stranded at home, the digital launch should be of more interest anyway.
But in case you are a stickler for physical game collecting, you’ll be delighted to learn that every physical version of Ion Fury comes packed in with an art book and stickers, alongside the game of course.
