Back to the Future 2 predicted it, Lexus built it: the Hoverboard

Back to the Future 2 had us dreaming of hoverboards since 1989 and it looks like it's finally happening. Lexus has tackled the project as part of their Amazing in Motion series, a project that is looking to pursue new possibilities in technology and design. More on the hoverboard will be revealed in the coming weeks, but here's what we know.

The Lexus Hoverboard uses magnetic levitation and Liquid nitrogen cooled superconductors  to achieve "frictionless movement" that has allowed Lexus to "achieve the impossible." Taking a closer look at the design of Lexus Hoverboard, you will see that it features iconic Lexus features: the Lexus spindle grille signature shape and is crafted out of the materials found in the their vehicles – like the natural bamboo and high-tech quality.

"It’s the perfect example of the amazing things that can be achieved when you combine technology, design and imagination,”said Mark Templin, executive vice president of Lexus International.

The prototype is set to be tested in Barcelona in the near future. Currently, the Lexus Hoverboard is only a prototype – so don't expect it to be on sale any time soon (if ever).
