BAM! ENTERTAINMENT MAKES ITS PLAYSTATION®2
DEBUT THIS WEEK WITH DRIVEN
San Jose, CA (November 13, 2001)-BAM!
Entertainment announced today that it is delivering Driven to the Sony®
PlayStation 2. Based on Franchise Pictures and Warner Bros.’ recently released
movie starring Sylvester Stallone, Burt Reynolds and Kip Purdue. Developed by
BAM! Entertainment’s London-based internal development studio, the game places
players at the start of the championship racing season of young hotshot Jimmy
Bly, and racing veteran Joe Tanto. Pitted against their rivals, Beau Brandenburg
and Max Manley, players will fight for survival in the dangerous yet seductive
world of fast cars, fame and money. Driven for the PlayStation 2 offers
two-player multiplayer racing action and will be available at most retail
outlets for an estimated price of $49.99.
BAM! Studios Europe has adapted many aspects
of the movie to create a world where gamers can experience the thrill of open
wheel racing through the eyes of the movie’s main characters. Players are able
to test their driving talent through multiple racing modes, which include:
Arcade, Story, and Multiplayer. Hours of racing fun are ensured, as players are
able to unlock additional drivers and tracks through success in the game’s story
mode, which features the vocal talents of both Sylvester Stallone and ‘Whose
Line Is It Anyway’ comedian Greg Proops.
The game contains a number of features taken
from the film, one of which is getting “in the zone’’, where players are
rewarded for flawless driving with improved handling and increased speed.
Staying true to the movie, the tremendous speeds involved (over 220mph) can lead
to spectacular multi-vehicle crashes if the player loses concentration for even
a split-second.
Driven offers
eight racing teams and twelve drivers to choose from and each driver has its own
individual strengths and weaknesses. The game is a personality-led style of
racing, with the emphasis placed on the driver’s abilities, rather than the
cars, a feature that is derived from Driven. This becomes particularly
apparent when players are required to drive strategically in a
co-operative style, with one of the drivers
fending off the rest of the racing pack to ensure their teammate’s success. Once
the player has selected their team and driver, they will then race over eight
different tracks, ranging from sunny ‘Angel’s Bay’ in California to the
picturesque countryside of ‘Manley Park’ in England, as well as the
traffic-ridden city streets of New York and Paris.
Driven for the
PlayStation 2 is multiplayer and rated T for Teen.
