Bandai Namco officially reveals new Vampire Action-RPG, Code Vein

A few days ago, Bandai Namco registered three trademarks for different games, one of them being Code Vein. Today, the company sent out a press release alongside a few screenshots, revealing that Code Vein is a "grueling Action-RPG" where players step into the role of a Revenant and "feast on the blood of enemies."

Much of what is contained in the press release sounds an awful lot like Dark Souls, which isn't terribly surprising given the reverence the entire industry has for the games and the fact that Bandai Namco is the publisher for the series. Check out this description.

"In this challenging action-RPG, CODE VEIN  finds players assuming the role of a Revenant. After stumbling into Vein, players are tasked to embark into the world with a companion picked from the various residents of Vein to uncover lost memories and an exit out of this new demented reality. The world of CODE VEIN  is dangerous, full of vicious enemies and monstrous bosses to put players’ combat skills to the test."

It's conceivable that feasting "on the blood" of enemies could simply be a repurposed Souls collecting mechanic, and factoring in the colorful adjectives of the enemies and bosses, it stands to reason that they are among Code Vein's primary foci.

Here's an official description of the game's story:

"In the not too distant future, a mysterious disaster has brought collapse to the world, as we know it. Towering skyscrapers, once symbols of prosperity, are now lifeless graves of humanity’s past pierced by the Thorns of Judgment. At the center of the destruction lies a hidden society of Revenants called Vein. This final stronghold is where the remaining few fight to survive, blessed with Gifts of power in exchange for their memories and a thirst for blood. Give into the bloodlust fully and risk becoming one of the Lost, fiendish ghouls devoid of any remaining humanity."

Code Vein is said to be releasing on "major home consoles" in 2018, but there is no reference to a PC version.
