Banned GTA 5 players could return online thanks to exploit

A number of players have been banned from playing Grand Theft Auto 5 due to unfair Online play – basically they were using mods to cheat or exploit the game, much to the annoyance of people playing against them. It looks like those banned GTA 5 players could be making a return.

A new GTA 5 exploit on PC has surfaced that could potentially allow individuals that had been banned from the game to make a return and that's not even the worst part – Rockstar might not be able to do anything about it.

The exploit is founded in Rockstar's fix for a repeating issue that had players losing their characters, cars and more. The fix was to remove a temporary character feature from the game's script, but have since re-scripted it back into the code.

By doing so, Rockstar has allowed modders to find their way back into the game – even after being banned.

“You can create disposable characters, cheat cash and stats and troll other players as much as you’d like and it will not be saved or recorded – this means it’s basically a way to play anonymously,” said modder LondonTown2004.

This means that previously banned individuals and current players can look forward to the following:

  1. Bypassing bans, Bad Sport status, Cheater Pool status and mic mutes.

  2. Never worry about being banned, suspended, muted, kicked, reported or otherwise punished for exploring scripts online.

  3. Bypass any current bans, Bad Sport statuses, Cheater Pool status, mic mutes or any other matchmaking or game-related punishment.

  4. Debug the online service and test out various scripts and modding tools without being penalized.

Now, Rockstar can remove the script once again from the game, but LondonTown2004 is creating their own modified version of the base code that will allow individuals to continue to access the game, regardless of what Rockstar says.

"GTA Online will become one big playground without Rockstar Games dictating what we can and cannot do without being punished."
