Batman: Arkham Knight’s Batgirl DLC gets new details

It was already stated that Batman: Arkham Knight's upcoming DLC, Batgirl: A Matter of Family, will have its own area to explore, but thanks to Entertainment Weekly we now have new details surrounding the new content.

The DLC will take place at Seagate Amusement Park, a nautical theme park that has been placed on top of an oil rig. The mastermind behind this crazy contraption is no other than the Joker himself. Batgirl: A Matter of Family DLC will take place prior the events at Batman Arkham Asylum. Batgirl (Barbara Gordon) must go the the amusement park and rescue her dad which happens to be Commissioner Gordon.

“We wanted to recreate the feeling of being trapped in a bizarre and unique open environment playing a game of cat and mouse with the Joker,” design producer Justin Vazquez told EW.

The DLC is being completely developed by WB Montréal, the developers who made Arkham Origins. They will be using the same engine that Rocksteady used on Arkham Knight. Besides Batgirl and Joker, we will also see other iconic characters from the Batman universe like Robin and Harley Quinn.“Seeing these four iconic characters together at the same time will be a real thrill,” said Vazquez, adding that Harley Quinn will be in a different costume. She will be wearing the red and black outfit from Batman Animated Series.

Vasquez also stated that Batgirl doesn’t have the physical strength that the Bat has, but she’s handy in combat situations and combines this with her “hacking ability."

“Hacking is really what separates her from the other characters. It’s a gameplay mechanic with which the player can create situations for Batgirl to really shine. Our intention was that Batgirl should be less powerful than Batman, but that Batgirl plus hacking could give her opportunities do things that not even Batman can pull off.”  Vasquez explained.

Batgirl: A Matter of Family seems to be much longer than the boiled down pre-order bonus where you play as Harley Quinn. A new area, separate story and a dedicated developing team all points to a well-flushed out Batgirl story. Season Pass holders will have exclusive right to play the DLC first on July 14th while everyone else will have to wait until July 21st. The DLC will cost £5.79/ $6.99 on PS4 and Xbox One while the PC version of the game still gets patched.
