Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice producer takes a swing at Marvel v DC rivalry

When it comes to comics the question of which brand you favor tends to pop up; are you a Marvel or DC Comics person? Do you like capes or not? Deborah Snyder, producer of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, was recently ask about two universes, and attempted to compare the two.

"Right from the beginning it is different tonally from where those movies are. You know, DC is an ancient world in a lot of ways," Snyder said, praising Marvel while emphasising the core differences between the Marvel and DC Comics. "I can see how people would want to make it this big, intense rivalry. Listen, they are so great. I loved Guardians of the Galaxy…our films are a bit more serious. They deal with things that are a little darker. Things that place them in our world."

Deborah Snyder gave a pretty PR friendly answer, but does have a point – things are 'a little darker' in the DC films. Looking at Christopher Nolan's Batman films alone, you would think that he set the standard for a dark and gritty DC Universe for the films.  Zack Snyder's own Superman film was darker, though it lacked in the gritty aspect. The Batman v Superman director (Zack Snyder) opened up that Christopher Nolan set the tone for the DC film universe and that he was happy that he wasn't working on a standalone Batman film – following up Nolan would be difficult.

"If it was a Batman movie it would be a much more difficult proposition because of how good Chris' movies are. We live in gratitude to those movies. Chris set a tone for the DC Universe, and separated us from Marvel in a great way. We are the legacy of those movies."
