It was a long time coming, but Gearbox has announced that Battleborn will be seeing its last new content after the upcoming Fall Update. The news was announced on Gearbox's forums by Creative Director Randy Varnell, who also mentioned that is being moved over to a "highly anticipated but unannounced game," which we can pretty much assume is the next Borderlands game.
"As of this week, there will be no more Battleplans and there is currently no planned content after the Fall Update," Vernell said. "Never fear! Battleborn is here to stay. Nothing is changing with Battleborn, and the servers will be up and active for the foreseeable future."
The Fall Update will feature some new Borderlands-themed skins, updated title art, balance tweaks, additional Finisher Boosts and Taunts.
Battleborn's post-launch struggles have been well documented, as they were pretty much present from the get-go. The game was often compared (and inaccurately so) to Overwatch, despite not being a pure shooter. The game has only managed to crack 1,000 concurrent players on Steam twice during the past year, with only about a hundred players online right now as of this writing.
As for the game that the world is calling Borderlands 3 at the moment, about 90% of the developers at Gearbox are currently hard at work on the game. Also, a tech demo was shown off back at GDC 2017 providing an early look at the game, although what's in it may not make it into the final game.
Battleborn is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
