Battlefield 1 single-player campaign will feature multiple main characters

We will explore different 'War Stories'

Earlier today, we got our first look at the single-player campaign in the upcoming Battlefield game, Battlefield 1. The trailer revealed something pretty interesting – we won't be following one character's story in World War 1, but multiple characters.

A post on the Battlefield blog detailed that the game will feature 'War Stories,' personal stories that focus on different protagonists with "unique backgrounds and skills."  The post goes on to name two of the characters that will be featured in the story, as well as two other possible characters – all of which make an appearance in the story trailer (as seen above).

According to the blog, here are the two characters:
  • "Danny Edwards, our driver character, is not an ace sniper. He’s not a crack pilot. He’s not a demo expert. He’s a former chauffeur – a volunteer new to the war. He can drive and he can fix things. That’s where we start."
  • "In Battlefield 1, you play an Arab rebel that is depicted as Lawrence’s right hand. This character needs to use her resourceful playstyle to scout out enemy encampments, liberate the equipment needed, and draw the armored train out to a final confrontation. Play it loud, quiet, long-range, close-up, on your horse, or in an appropriate vehicle – it’s up to you."

The blog does not outright say that we will play as Lawrence of Arabia or the Red Baron, but the duo are named as characters we would get to know.

Adding to the blogs details, the ESRB offered this tidbit of information on the game:

"As players progress through the storyline, they assume the roles of fighter pilot, armor crewman, rebel fighter, and message runner in order to complete missions. "

The fighter pilot could very well be the Red Baron, while the armor crewman is Danny and the rebel fighter is the 'Arab rebel.' As for who the message runner is, Lawrence of Arabia was a liaison between British officers and Arab forces – it could very well be him!
