Battlefield 3: Premium, EA's premium content service forlast year's Battlefield 3 game, has surpassed 2 million members. The service, which unlocks all Battlefield 3 add-on content for a one-time fee of $49.99, launched in June 2012. EA announced the milestone today, while thanking fans with a free copy of Battlefield 1942 on PC.
"Today, we're equally as proud with the success of Battlefield 3 Premium. This has been an ambitious way to give our fans fresh, high-quality content at a great value," said DICE General Manager Karl Magnus Troedsson. "This achievement is helping us define the new standard by which all other shooters deliver content and exclusive bonuses to their player communities."
Battlefield 3: Premium unlocks five themed digital expansion packs that include a total of 20 new maps, new weapons and vehicles, four new game modes, and much more. To date, three expansions have been released: Back to Karkand, Close Quarters, and Armored Kill.
The next add-on, Aftermath, is set to release on November 27 for PS3 Premium member and December 11 for non-Premium PS3 members. It will be available on Xbox 360 and PC for Premium members on December 4 and on December 18 for non-Premium members. This digital expansion is set in the "shattered districts, streets and cities of a post-earthquake Iran. With operational capacity severely compromised, players will fight through the dust and rubble in a vertical and horizontal urban combat setting." Other new features include support in the form of heavily modified troop transport and civilian vehicles adapted for warfare as well as the deadly crossbow, a new weapon to help players deliver silent kills.
Battlefield 3: End Game, the final add-on, will be available in March 2013.
