The contents of Battlefield 4's next expansion, Naval Strike, have been a little more fleshed out today thanks to a "first glimpse" provided by DICE. The upcoming DLC, due out in "late March," emphasizes Battlefield 4's water-based combat with the introduction of four new maps set in the South China Sea, a new amphibious hovercraft, and re-imagining of Battlefield 2142's Titan Mode.
DICE didn't go into a whole lot of depth regarding the new maps, but did briefly touch on each of the four: Lost Islands, Nansha Strike, Wave Breaker, and Operation Mortar
Blow open a crashed passenger plane and capture fishing villages across the tropical Lost Islands. Drop a submarine on your foes as you infiltrate a naval base or rush between shipping docks and rocky islands on the massive Wave Breaker map. Wage war across stormy seas in the largest ocean stretch in a Battlefield map yet with Nansha Strike. Storm an abandoned cliff-side resort, or get lost in the breathtaking vistas in Operation Mortar.
In addition to new maps, the other big highlight in this DLC is Carrier Assault, a mode inspired by Battlefield 2142's Titan Mode which involved destroying the opposing team's carrier ship while defending your own. DICE didn't go into too much detail as to what this mode will entail, but given the name and the theme of Naval Strike, I'm going to assume the gameplay is similar but with Aircraft Carriers instead of floating carrier ships.
Naval Strike will be released in late March for Battlefield 4 Premium members.
