Persistence has apparently paid off as Battlefield 4's next expansion, Naval Strike, will see the return of Battlefield 2142's popular Titan Mode. News of the mode's return was confirmed via the official product description for the expansion.
Among the features being introduced in the next add-on is the new Carrier Assault game mode, described as "a re-imagining of the classic Battlefield 2142 Titan Mode."
For those unfamiliar, the Battlefield 2142 exclusive Titan Mode involved destroying the opposing team's carrier ship while defending your own. What made the mode unique was the ways in which you could win: of which there were two possibilities. The first was similar to Conquest in which you would hold points (Block III Anti-Titan Missile silos) that would slowly work down the enemy Titan's shield and eventually destroy the ship. An alternative, more exciting method involved actually boarding the enemy titan and destroy it from within: first disabling its shield with silos, then boarding it and destroy the ship's central core. The second method was considered more dangerous and difficult, but allows for a quicker victory (or loss depending on how successful it goes).
At this point its unclear how Battlefield 4 will re-imagine the mode, but hopefully that core gameplay remains intact. I'm assuming — given the naval theme of the expansion — that it'll involve destroying an enemy aircraft carrier.
