Of all the days to have a potential Battlefield 4 release date leak, it had to be today. It's hard enough to believe leaks and rumors regularly, but what about on April Fools' day? We've been taught to take everything we hear today with a grain a salt, especially when it's about something coming from the gaming industry. Now add the fact that the recently unveiled Battlefield 4 is one of the most highly anticipated games of 2013. Choose to believe if you want, but don't say I didn't warn you.
Battlefield 4 will release on October 29, 2013, according to an official blog post written by editor Denny Atkin on Xbox.com. So why should we believe him?
For starters, October 29 is a Tuesday, the traditional release date for games in North America. Secondly, it wasn't a blatantly obvious leak, which makes it seem more like a slip-up than an obvious joke.
"Only in Battlefield can players go through a building instead of around it, eject from a jet and take out the enemy mid-free fall, or flip a tank," Atkin wrote. "DICE, a studio of Electronic Arts, announced that Battlefield 4 will arrive on the Xbox 360 on October 29, 2013."
An October release isn't too far fetched given that Battlefield 3 launched on October 25, 2011 in North America. Perhaps the most telling sign that this could be legit, though, is that the date was removed from the post. It's definitely a suspicious move, but maybe I'm completely wrong. For what it's worth, the date on Xbox.com for Battlefield 4 now reads "7/7/2077." Seems like they are trying a little too hard to cover up the flub.
So, let's say Battlefield 4 does release on October 29. That would put it head-to-head against Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed: Black Flag. We're talking two blockbuster titles launching on the very same day in October. What a cruel, cruel move — if true.
