Battlestar Galactica movie in the works at Universal

Battlestar Galactica looks to be getting another attempt at a full scale film, according to the Hollywood Reporter. It will reportedly be produced by Michael De Luca (American History X, Social Network, Captain Phillips) who will be teaming up with Bluegrass Films (Ted 2) on the project for Universal Studios.

The series has seen a handful of productions since its inception. With the TV show airing originally in 1978 for a couple of years, it wasn't until 2000 that talks for a movie began to surface again. These quickly fell through, and it was placed on the back burner until it was revived on SyFy for five years form 2004-2009. Multiple talks for a film have surfaced since then but never materialized.

Battlestar Galactica was always sort of the "poor man's Star Wars", but succeeded with its own unique twist of killer Cylon machines tryng to wipe out entire planets. If this sounds familiar, it's because the series also served as part of the inspiration for the Mass Effect series. There is currently no writer yet listed for the film, but we'll keep you updated as we hear more.

What are your thoughts on a new film? Let us know.
