Marvel has announced that Benedict Cumberbatch will star as the Sorcerer Supreme in the upcoming Doctor Strange movie, which is releasing in theaters on November 4, 2016. Cumberbatch is best knwon for his work in Sherlock, The Imitation Game, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Star Trek Into Darkness, and the voice of Smaug in The Hobbit.
The film is being directed by Scott Dickerson and being written by Jon Spaihts, which will follow the neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who discovers a hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions after a horrific car accident.
Producer Kevin Feige said, "Stephen Strange's story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity. In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character."
