Benioff & Weiss: Game of Thrones TV show will not spoil books

Game of Thrones writers David Benioff and Dan Weiss have revealed that while their TV show on HBO will include elements of George R.R. Martin's upcoming books, it won't spoil them.

While the duo spoke to Entertainment weekly, David Benioff opened up on the issue that has been on the lips of Game of Thrones fans for months – the idea that the show will ruin the books.

The show – how ever highly or maybe even low you might rate it – has created a unique situation, splitting the Game of Thrones fan base into a lot of different sections.

Some people enjoy Benioff and Weiss' work, some people might be happy to wait around for the books and not watch the TV show, and others… well, there's a million ways a fan could interpret the show moving ahead of the books.

Anyway, here's what David Benioff has said on the matter:

"People are talking about whether the books are going to be spoiled – and it’s really not true. So much of what we’re doing diverges from the books at this point. And while there are certain key elements that will be the same, we’re not going to talk so much about that – and I don’t think George is either.

People are going to be very surprised when they read the books after the show. They’re quite divergent in so many respects for the remainder of the show."

So – if Benioff's recent quotes are anything to go off – it would seem that both the show and the book will take different routes to achieve a similar finish, however booklovers are still going to be able to enjoy the detail that George will undoubtedly include along the way.

The next episode of Game of Thrones will air this Sunday on HBO and Sky Atlantic.
