Bethesda has turned down several Fallout movie offers

The immersive apocalypse of Fallout may one day be made into a movie, but Bethesda is in no rush to make its Hollywood debut.

As Executive Producer Todd Howard told GamesIndustry, Bethesda has fielded several pitches from studios interested in bringing Fallout (and, undoubtedly, its many fans) to the big screen. Yet nothing ever stuck.

“I’ve taken a number of meetings [for movie pitches] over the years and nothing quite clicked where I felt, ‘Oh, that would be as good as the game,’” he said. Howard added that he remains open to a movie, provided it meets the studio’s “high bar” for attention to detail, but that the quality of the Fallout games will always come first.

“If there had been a Fallout movie, you’d feel different about Fallout when we announced Fallout 4 and one of them wouldn’t be quite right and you wouldn’t want that to be the game, where the movie takes it in another direction,” he said.

Many other game studios are more eager to see their properties adapted into films. Sony’s Uncharted movie is set to release in June 2017 after being delayed from its original release target, much like Uncharted 4. There are also still whispers of a God of War film wafting about. Square Enix’s Tomb Raider reboot is also getting a film, and seems to have already begun the casting process. Then there’s the Assassin’s Creed movie which, despite having just finished filming, has already landed a sequel.
