Bethesda honors 20 years of Wolfenstein 3D with free browser game

Bethesda is celebrating Wolfenstein 3D's 20th anniversary with a free browser game version.

The release contains all three original episodes: "Escape from Castle Wolfenstein"; "Operation: Eisenfaust"; and "Die, Führer, Die!".

Id Software co-founder John Carmack, who programmed Wolfenstein 3D, has released a developer commentary video (below) about the game's legacy.

The festivities also extend to Steam, where customers can save 75% on the original (only $1.24) and related games for a short time. Apple device owners can download Wolftenstein 3D Classic Platinum for free, and a few exclusive items are available on Xbox Live's Avatar Marketplace, as well.

Id Software has been a subsidiary of ZeniMax Media, which Bethesda Softworks founded, since 2009.
