When Nintendo revealed their new console, the Nintendo Switch, it showed off Bethesda's critically acclaimed RPG, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The game is getting remastered for Xbox One and PS4 later this month, but after seeing it in the reveal trailer for Switch we all assumed it would make its way to the Nintendo console too. Turns out this may not be the case, at least as of right now.
Bethesda made a statement after the reveal stating that they aren't confirming any titles for the Switch at this time, including Skyrim. "We’re happy to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Nintendo on the video. While we are not confirming any specific titles at this time, we are pleased to announce our partnership with Nintendo and support of the Switch. We look forward to revealing specific games and details in the future."
It seems bizarre that they would show Skyrim and not bring it to the Switch at all, but it probably wouldn't be the weirdest thing that's happened to Nintendo. It's entirely possible Bethesda is a bit hesitant to release anything on the Switch at launch and would rather have someone else test the waters for the console and maybe it'll boost their confidence.
The Nintendo Switch is set to release in March 2017 and has a lengthy list of developers who are onboard with the console already, including big names like EA, Ubisoft, and Take-Two (parent company of Rockstar Games and 2K Games). We will keep you posted on everything Nintendo Switch as we learn more about it in the coming months.
