When Bethesda first revealed Fallout 4 in the beginning of June gamers everywhere were having a hard time keeping the hype at a level that still allowed them to function. By the time Bethesda showed off gameplay (as seen above) the hype was still there, but there was a new faction growing amongst the excited fans – the people that didn't like the game's graphics or gameplay.
According to Bethesda's marketing chief Pete Hines, the criticism doesn't "upset" the developers. Fallout 4's developers are industry veterans, they know that they can't please everyone.
"As with most forms of entertainment, you never get 100 percent agreement on anything," Hines said to Metro. "And so, at the end of the day, whether it's what the graphics look like or whether the gameplay is what you want or whether you like the setting, or whatever it is, everybody is entitled to their opinion."
Just because there are those that may not like the game's direction, Bethesda won't be regearing the game to please those individuals. "The team, from a development standpoint, is focused on a thing that they believe in and finishing what they think they have to do," explained Hines. "And from our standpoint we’re going to continue to talk about what we’re doing."
For those that complain that the gameplay is too similar to Fallout 3, they are right to a certain degree. The game was created to alienate its predecessor, but it is different and if you "play it for an extended period of time" it will show you that. Ultimately, Hines knows that if you don't want to buy the game, and if you do you will. Bethesda will do their best, but they can't make you do anything.
"You can use whatever criteria you want to buy or not buy a game," said Hines. "Because ultimately it’s not up to me. I don’t get to go up to each individual consumer and say, ‘You have to buy this game or I’m gonna try and convince you otherwise!’ I put out information in the best way possible to give people a good idea, ‘Here’s what we’re doing and here’s what it’s gonna be like’."
Basically, if you don't like the graphics or gameplay… Deal with it. You don't have to buy the game, no one is forcing you to buy it.
