Bethesda lifts size restrictions for Skyrim mods on Steam Workshop

The possibilities are limitless!

The size limits restricting Skyrim modders from publishing their mods on the Steam Workshop have been lifted. Previously capped at 100 MB, Bethesda announced today that they've pulled the restraining bolt, "allowing you to upload mod projects to the file size your project demands!"

The update is still in beta testing this week, but Bethesda gave modders a look at the changes for both Skyrim's PC launcher and the Creation Kit.

Creation Kit 1.9.33 Update

  • Creation Kit now supports unlimited file sizes for mods on the Steam Workshop.
  • The Preview Image is limited to no larger than 1 MB.

Skyrim Launcher

  • The Skyrim Launcher no longer downloads mods from Steam Workshop. Downloads are now managed by the Steam Client. The Skyrim Launcher updates the game after the Steam Client finishes the download.

While there's certainly no shortage of player-created content on the Skyrim Workshop on Steam, there were some popular mods that had to be found elsewhere due to their size limit. For example, the Falskaar mod, which requires over 400 MB just for the main file, had to be downloaded from third-party modding websites.
