In spring of 2015, Bethesda came out of absolutely nowhere with a vague social media post that resembled the “Please stand by…” screen you’d see on a television. We all knew what it meant but we couldn’t be sure if they were pulling our legs. A new Fallout game after nearly a decade of waiting? Preposterous!
Of course, we all know it turned out to be Fallout 4 and it released about five months later. Initially, it was praised and people bought into the hype which gave the game an extreme boost in sales but in hindsight, many people are quite sour on the RPG. Some say it doesn’t innovate enough from Fallout 3/New Vegas, the story is lackluster, and ultimately, it feels like a disappointment after such a long wait.
Whatever the case may be for you personally, it seems like Bethesda is teeing up another Fallout-related announcement. They’re back to their old shenanigans and have posted the “Please stand by…” image once again, this time featuring slightly nicer colors. While this likely isn’t Fallout 5, it could be a spin-off in the same vein as Fallout: New Vegas. It could also be a remaster of Fallout 3, a port of Fallout 3, New Vegas, or 4 to Nintendo Switch. There are lots of possibilities but whatever it is, Bethesda wants us to be ready.
There’s no time or date for when whatever this is will be revealed but we can likely expect something during this week via a trailer and official title reveal. We’ll likely get the full info blowout at E3 just like they did with Fallout 4 in 2015. Could this be one massive disappointment waiting to happen? Who knows?!
Kotaku reports that the game, whatever it is, is indeed a new game and will take the series in a “brand new direction” with the announcement tomorrow. Meanwhile, you can go to Bethesda’s Twitch stream where they have a Vault-Boy bobblehead sitting in front of the “Please stand by…” screen. From time to time, things happen in the background such as Bethesda’s own Pete Hines walking in to pour drinks in Vault-Tec cups and other employees doing other random things like putting Vault-Boy to sleep.
