Bethesda’s Pete Hines believes Fallout 4 ‘can top Skyrim’

Bethesda isn't making it a secret that Fallout 4 was born out of the knowledge they gained from previous game releases, like The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. Todd Howard, the Creative Director at Bethesda, has spoken out on two occasions saying that Skyrim shaped Fallout 4 and that, ultimately, it would make Fallout 4 better (particularly when it comes to game bugs).

Howard has stepped down from the Skyrim-Fallout 4 stage, in order to allow the Vice President and PR of marketing at Bethesda, Pete Hines, to speak on the matter. According to Hines, Fallout 4 will be bigger than Skyrim ever was, at least in terms of sales.

“I think this can top Skyrim,” Hines told MCV. “It could be our biggest release ever. But we will see. It is part of my job to build the megaphone that we hold up to the game, and the game decides how loud it goes. Just how big it is going to be is hard to say. Skyrim was a massively big deal.”

Beating Skyrim in sales would require a force like no other, within two days of Skyrim's launch in 2011 3.4 million physical copies of the game were sold. Two years later in June, Bethesda reported that Skyrim had sold 20 million copies of the game. So — Fallout 4 has to sell over 20 million copies before the two year mark rolls around. I will be here waiting to match those numbers…. (mainly because it's my job).
