Bethesda showcased two of their new IPs at the PlayStation 5 event today. Both games were announced at last year’s E3 but this is the first actual look at gameplay we’ve gotten for Deathloop and Ghostwire.
Deathloop looks to be a really fun idea for an FPS that perfectly matches Arkane’s creative and replayable style. A multiplayer mode seemed to be teased at the end of the trailer as well which introduces a competitive mode. Players can seemingly try to ruin your attempts to assassinate targets and cause headaches for you.
You can read a description and watch a trailer for the game below.
“The island of Blackreef. For most of its inhabitants, it’s a paradise. But for Colt, it’s an inescapable prison. Thanks to a mysterious timeloop, he’s reliving the same day, over and over, trying to find a way to break the endless cycle he’s trapped in. As Colt, you’ll have to take out eight targets – including your arch-nemesis Julianna Blake – if you ever want to escape. But remember: It’s a timeloop, so if at first you don’t succeed… die, die again.”
Ghostwire: Tokyo brings horror mastermind Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil 4, The Evil Within) into a first-person setting. It looks to blend an eerie setting with high octane action to go beyond Mikiami’s usual style.
You can watch a trailer and read the official description for the game below.
“Tokyo is overrun by deadly supernatural forces after 99% of the city’s population vanished. Use a powerful arsenal of spectral abilities to fight the paranormal threat and unravel the mystery behind the mass disappearance.”
Perhaps the most interesting news out of all of this was that both Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo will be timed exclusives to PlayStation 5. They will come to Xbox and PC at some point but for a window of time (likely 6 months – a year, but details are unclear), they will be exclusive to PlayStation 5.
This has caused some upset for fans and even some confusion. Typically, Bethesda has a friendly relationship with Xbox. One would expect Bethesda to make this move with them but have opted for PlayStation. As to why the deal even happened in the first place, we don’t know and can only speculate.
Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo will launch on PlayStation 5 in 2020 & 2021 respectively.
