PlayStation 3 exclusive, Beyond: Two Souls, sold through more than one million units in 2013, Quantic Dream co-CEO Guillaume de Fondaumière revealed today.
Described as an "emotional journey," Beyond: Two Souls is inspired by the loss of game director David Cage. The game explores the life of Jodie Holmes (played by Ellen Paige), a young woman who possesses supernatural powers through a psychic link to an invisible entity. Being developed by Quantic Dream, gameplay for Beyond: Two Souls does bear a resemblance to the studio's previous title, Heavy Rain.
Comparatively, Beyond: Two Souls' sold 70,088 copies in France alone, which Fondaumière said is better than the amount Heavy Rain sold in its first 12 weeks of availability in the region. The two games, however, appear to have reached the one million threshold in around the same amount of time. Beyond: Two Souls released in October 2013 meaning it sold over one million units in about two months. Heavy Rain released in February 2010 and in April 2010 it was revealed to have sold over one million as well.
Over on the Quantic Dream website there's a "thanks a million" post featuring various reviews for the game. Hmm, looks like they left off GameZone's review.
