Check your emails, folks. A "big batch" of keys for PlanetSide 2's PS4 Closed Beta has apparently been sent out, according to creative director Matt Higby. While the first codes went out late last night, it was only a "very small batch." Today's sounds much larger, though we didn't get a specific number.
Obviously the only thing you can do is repeatedly smash your F5 key in hopes of seeing the code since no one really knows when your code will show up. Well, we kind of do since SOE says they'll be sending out invites in chronological order for when you signed up. So if you believe you were one of the first to sign up, then proceed with the email refreshing. If not, don't panic just yet as there's a chance more codes will be sent out. SOE previously laid out plans for the closed beta, explaining that the initial phase will consist of just "a few thousand players." Once things kind of settle down, they'll continue to send out invites with the goal of eventually opening the beta to a "much broader group" of players.
"We want to make sure the servers are handling everything OK and that we're getting the information we need to make tweaks and changes, and once we feel good about that, we'll send out more invites to the players," PlanetSide 2 executive producer Clint Worley told us. "We're going to send out that initial round, evaluate, make sure that we get the data that we need, and then send out the other round. The invites are being sent based on when the players submitted their beta application. The earlier you submitted the information, the more likely you are to be in the early phases of the beta."
Higby also emphasized that this is a "real BETA test, NOT a hype generator/game demo." To that end, he wants you to report bugs and provide feedback so that PlanetSide 2 isn't a giant disappointment when it does officially launch on PlayStation 4.
