Big Update for BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Coming Soon

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift has been out since last July (even earlier in Japan), but that hasn’t stopped publisher Aksys from announcing a new patch for May. New achievements and trophies will be released, along with a new character named Platinum the Trinity–but it won’t come cheap.

Priced at $7.99 (560 Microsoft points), Platinum the Trinity is more expensive than the already overpriced Marvel vs. Capcom 3 DLC fighters, and that game isn’t even a year old. I suppose the logic is that anyone who loves the game enough is willing to pay a little more for a new fighter.

At least the changes to the game won’t cost you anything, and there’s a bunch of them. The game will be updated to match the arcade version of Continuum Shift II, adding character balance tweaks, more mechanics, and game engine adjustments. In addition, bug fixes and improvements will be made to the game’s online play. The full list of additions can be read below:

-New character Platinum the Trinity added
-Game balance updated to /BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II/
-New achievements and trophies added for the character Platinum the
Trinity
-All Challenge Mode combos updated for character changes
-Updated Ranked Match interface and matchmaking procedure
-Improved measures for better online latency
-Improved countermeasures for disconnecting players in Ranked Match
-New simplified chat messages added for Player Match rooms
-Addressed an issue where Valkenhayn’s achievements could not be
obtained (Xbox 360 Version)
-Added an ad banner to be displayed on certain game screens
-Various other bug fixes

When you consider all the fixes plus the character, maybe $7.99 isn’t so bad. Still, I feel like fighting game makers haven’t quite hit a sweet spot when it comes to DLC characters and the sweeping improvements they make to their games. What do you think? Is the price fair, or will you skip the update when it lands this May?

Video games became an amazing, artful, interactive story-driven medium for me right around when I played Panzer Dragoon Saga on Sega Saturn. Ever since then, I've wanted to be a part of this industry. Somewhere along the line I, possibly foolishly, decided I'd rather write about them than actually make them. So here I am.
