For whatever reason, call it fate; call it luck; call it karma. I believe that everything happens for a reason. I believe that Bill Murray was destined to make an appearance in Paul Feig's new Ghostbusters.
For what purpose?
Well, that remains a mystery, but The Hollywood Reporter is claiming that the 64-year-old actor, who played Dr. Peter Venkmean in in Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989), will appear in the upcoming installment of the franchise. It's unclear how large of a role Murray will have, but I'm going to assume it'll just be a cameo.
News of Murray's appearance in the film comes just weeks after Dan Aykroyd, who played Ray Stanz in the original two movies, confirmed his appearance in the new film. Last month, Aykroyd, in a now-removed tweet, revealed he was shooting a scene with Kristen Wiig. He didn't get into specifics, but a reportĀ from Indie Revolver claims that he will play a cab driver and during his scene with Wiig will drop the famous line "I ain't afraid of no ghosts."
It's unclear if Aykroyd and Murray will be portraying their same roles, or if they will exist strictly as cameos with no relation to the original movies. Part of the problem with identifying their roles is that not much is known about the plot of the new Ghostbusters. We know Feig's Ghostbusters will acknowledge the originals, but to what extent?
Either way, I'm sure fans of the franchise will be happy to know the new installment has both Aykroyd and Murray's stamps of approval. Given Murray's hesitance towards a third film in the past, I doubt he would make an appearance if the script wasn't up to part.
