Even with the hard times that the brand has endured in 2017, Mass Effect will continue to expand its scope with a new novel that will release next year. Mass Effect: Annihilation, written by Hugo Award-winning author Catherynne M. Valente is a tie-in book, telling the journey of the Keelah Si’yah's voyage to Andromeda, carrying 20,000 drell, elcor, batarian, and quarian colonists.
Here's the official plot description courtesy of the BioWare blog:
"A pathogen is discovered aboard the ark after many drell are found dead in their cryo pods. As the pathogen jumps species, the ship’s systems begin to fail, making it clear this is no accident."
That's all the information that BioWare is willing to share on Mass Effect: Annihilation at the moment, but the book is scheduled to release next year on June 26th, 2018 in the US, Canada, and the UK and then on August 28th, 2018, in Australia.
BioWare officially ceased support on Mass Effect: Andromeda back in August after rumors had circulated about the cancellation of its single-player DLC. The series now said to be on hiatus, but BioWare says they will look to bring it back in a "really relevant way."
Whatever that means.
