BioWare ‘listening’ to Mass Effect 3 ending response

BioWare wants you to know, they are listening to your response on the Mass Effect 3 ending.

There's been a lot of controversy surrounding the somewhat ambiguous ending and the good news is BioWare plans on discussing it "once more people have had time to complete the game."

Speaking out for the first time about Mass Effect 3's ending, BioWare's community coordinator Chris Priestly didn't offer any form of explanation, but did say they plan to engage in healthy discussions in the future.

"We appreciate everyone’s feedback about Mass Effect 3 and want you to know that we are listening," he wrote on the BioWare forums. "Active discussions about the ending are more than welcome here, and the team will be reviewing it for feedback and responding when we can."

"Please note, we want to give people time to experience the game so while we can’t get into specifics right now, we will be able to address some of your questions once more people have had time to complete the game. In the meantime, we’d like to ask that you keep the non-spoiler areas of our forums and our social media channels spoiler free."

Addressing the critical fan response, he wrote, "We understand there is a lot of debate on the Mass Effect 3 ending and we will be more than happy to engage in healthy discussions once more people get to experience the game. We are listening to all of your feedback."

"In the meantime, let's give appreciation to Commander Shepard. Whether you loved the ME3 ending or didn't or you just have a lot of questions, he/she has given many of us some of the best adventures we have had while playing games. What was your favorite moment?"

Ah, there's nothing like drawing attention away from the topic at hand by asking some run-of-the-mill question.  While I understand BioWare's not wanting to spoil anything for anyone who hasn't completed Mass Effect 3, leaving fans in the dark is almost just as bad.

Since the game's release last week, fans have been in an uproar over the "polarizing" ending.  Earlier this week, director and executive producer Casey Hudson did offer some explanation to Digital Trends, saying the goal of the ending was to get people talking about the game.

"I didn’t want the game to be forgettable, and even right down to the sort of polarizing reaction that the ends have had with people–debating what the endings mean and what’s going to happen next, and what situation are the characters left in," he explained. "That to me is part of what’s exciting about this story. There has always been a little bit of mystery there and a little bit of interpretation, and it’s a story that people can talk about after the fact."

Others have their own opinion, however.  After a leaked image made its way to the internet, many began speculating that some form of multiplayer DLC was on the way.  But just yesterday, an idea was proposed that the DLC, supposedly called 'The Truth', could contain the REAL ending of Mass Effect 3 – or at least continue the ending.  Nobody knows for sure, but some believe BioWare intentionally "half-assed" the ending because of the leak.

It seems a little unbelievable that BioWare would intentionally leave an unfinished ending in a game that has such a strong, passionate fanbase and release one later in the form of DLC.

Whatever their reasons for the ending, we should hear about it soon.  In the meantime I suggest heading over to the BioWare forums or the Mass Effect 3 subreddit for some pretty entertaining reads.
