BioWare shares 20 Minutes of Anthem Gameplay in their E3 Demo

Developer BioWare has uploaded the full E3 gameplay demo of their upcoming sci-fi third-person action-RPG Anthem, the team had previously prepared for this year’s E3. Check out the massive 20 Minute video where game producer Ben Irving is narrating a full mission while sharing lots of info. Anthem will release February 22nd 2019 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Anthem, Electronic Arts big upcoming title, has been extensively hyped since its unveiling last year during E3. After all, the self-titled social Co-Op action-RPG is set to compete with juggernaut Destiny in the MMO-lite genre of Games-as-a-Service – or in short GaaS. But despite a year passing since its announcement, fans had just now the opportunity to see the game in action. And what action that is.

BioWare uploaded the gameplay demo they brought to this year’s E3 in its entirety on the game’s Youtube channel. During the close to 20 minutes of non-stop gameplay, fans finally get to witness what Anthem is going to be all about. Lead Producer Ben Irving commentates a run of the “Scars and Villainy” mission, in which four players are showing a nice vertical slice of the game.

We also learn a lot of details about Anthem in general. As expected from a game that focuses a lot on Co-Op or as the team calls it, Social Play, players will be able to tackle missions together to earn XP and collect valuable loot. It’s nice that players can join active mission mid-play, especially since missions can be longer affairs. Another feature which will certainly end up helpful, is that players from widely differing Levels can party up. No need to wait for friends to reach a similar level.

In this demo, we see a group of four player, each with individual abilities. Every player in Anthem will be using Exosuits called Javelins which are going to play an important role in the game, since they decide the role of the player. Massive metal hulks called Colossus for example trade agility in favor of massive firepower, while the faster moving Ranger-type focuses on precision strikes from distance. As an exotic variation, we also get a glimpse at the Storm class, which uses elemental attacks and is only lightly armored.

The E3 demo goes heavily further into detail, combo attacks, lore, abilities and more. Make sure the watch it. You can also pre-order Anthem on the game’s website.
