Black Desert Online fires on Overwatch butt pose controversy

Blizzard’s decision to remove the over-the-shoulder “butt pose” from Overwatch character Tracer’s repertoire of celebratory emotes gave the hornet’s nest that is sexism in gaming a swift kick. Some called it an improvement, and some called it bowing to social pressure. Blizzard called it a chance to make better animation.

Black Desert Online developer Daum Games called it a golden opportunity for an April Fools’ joke.

“We have announced today that Black Desert Online will get special butt post victory animations in the new Crimson Battlefield PvP mode, which was added as part of the Media expansion earlier this week,” the studio said on Facebook.

“The first series of butt pose animations will be added during next weeks’ maintenance and will be made available at no additional cost. A wider range of optional butt pose animations will be made available through the cash shop at a later stage.”

Naturally, the post’s headlining image shows a Berserker—a hulking class of melee-based ogres—sporting suspiciously colored tights.
