Black Mesa countdown points to major announcement next week

It's totally a release date!!

Two years ago, Valve gave Crowbar Collective, the team behind Black Mesa, approval to sell their high-definition remake of Half-Life on Steam. Black Mesa: Source started out as a mod project that took the original Half-Life and completely rebuilt it up to Xen.

In the beginning of the year, the Black Mesa site started broadcasting 'emergency' signals, but not much was made of it. The site is sending out signals again. This time though, it is counting down to May 5th, 2015 at 10:47 HMT+0. Before you worry about whether the site is legitimate, we looked it up and it's owned by Crowbar Collective — no one is trying to pull a fast one on you.

What could they be counting down to? More than likely, a complete version of Black Mesa: Source up to and including Xen. In a post in 2013 on the official Black Mesa forums, the lead developer said Xen was "a ways off." Well, it's been 'a ways' since then…

The other thing it could be (and likely is not — but we can dream) is an announcement that not only is Black Mesa: Source complete, but Valve giving them the funding to develope Half-Life 3! If only.
