I just watched the ending scene from Call of Duty: Black Ops. I can't believe how stupid and ridiculous that was. Honestly, that was bad. That was laughably bad. For some reason, though, the honor of best video game ending of all time has gone to Black Ops. Well, at least according to the Guinness World Records 2012 Gamer's Edition book.
Except it's not really all that official when you think about it. You see, Guinness World Records held a poll, and individuals voted for Black Ops. In other words, this was a popularity vote. What that constitutes is that this isn't official at all as far as a "world record" is concerned. I mean, unless the world record is "game that gets the most popularity votes for best ending."
Now, I know I'm that guy who hates Call of Duty, so my credibility may be questioned here, but if you look at some of the other games on this Guinness World Records list, you'll agree with me. For example, I love Super Mario Bros. and New Super Mario Bros. Wii, but those games are included on the list, too, and I know I'm not the only one who thinks their inclusion is weird. Popularity votes, people!
Black Ops does not have the best video game ending of all time. I get that it's insanely popular, and I know exactly why that is. I don't need to like the game to understand that it's a good first-person shooter. That said, my disdain toward the game doesn't change the fact that it doesn't deserve to be called the game with the best ending in the entire history of video games. Ugh … so stupid.
