There were reports yesterday that BlackBerry and Samsung were in talks for Samsung to purchase BlackBerry, somewhere to the tune of $7.5 billion, mostly to pick up BlackBerry's patents. Reuters reported the deal, which proposed a price of between $13.35 and $15.49 a share. The report caused BlackBerry shares to shoot up almost 30% just before the market closed.
BlackBerry responded on their site that they are aware of press reports concerning Samsung purchasing BlackBerry, and said, "BlackBerry has not engaged in discussions with Samsung with respect to any possible offer to purchase BlackBerry. BlackBerry's policy is not to comment on rumors or speculation, and accordingly it does not intend to comment further."
So who do you believe: Reuters that says executives from both companies met last week to discuss the transaction, or BlackBerry, who denies that and declines to comment further?
