Blade Runner sequel starts filming this July

The long-awaited Blade Runner sequel will finally enter production this July, a new report from Deadline claims.

Details regarding the highly anticipated sequel have slowly trickled in over the past few months and though the plot is still a mystery, we do know that the sequel will take place decades after the events of the original film, which was set in a 2019 version of Los Angeles.

Harrison Ford is returning for the sequel and will reprise his role as Replicant hunter Rick Deckard. However, it's believed he will be a supporting role to newcomer Ryan Gosling.

Québécois director Denis Villeneuve has been will helm the film, and assured fans that as a "hardcore" fan of Blade Runner "I don't want to f*ck that up." The screenplay has been written by Hampton Fancher, Ridely Scott and Michael Green and is said to have "more than impressed" original star Harrison Ford.

It also sounds like Scott wants to keep the tone true to the original. "[Harrison Ford] said, 'Wow, this is the best thing I've ever read,' so it's very relevant to what happened in the first one," Scott previously told MTV. "I'm not just doing a sequel with lots of action and see how far we can go with the special effects because you can't really. Blade Runner kind of landed on a somehow very credible future. And it's very difficult to change that because it's been so influential with everything else."

Scott previously detailed the opening scene of Blade Runner 2, and it sounds pretty amazing. You can read it here.
