Team17 has unveiled the release date for their gorgeous action-adventure metroidvania Blasphemous. Eager fans of the genre will be able to experience the brutal action game on September 10th when it launched on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Watch the new trailer here!
Pixel art has long become a known art style, especially among indie developers. But while the visual style is heavily relying on touching the nostalgia strings of gamers, there are expectations which truly stand out among games who rely on the charming blocky 2D style. Blasphemous is undoubtdely one of them. With its gorgeous attention to detail, smooth animations and brutal visuals, the 2D metroidvania is anything but trying to emulate the family-friendly games of the SNES and Genesis era.
A foul curse has fallen upon the land of Cvstodia and all its inhabitants – it is simply known as The Miracle. Play as The Penitent One – a sole survivor of the massacre of the ‘Silent Sorrow’. Trapped in an endless cycle of death and rebirth, it’s down to you to free the world from this terrible fate and reach the origin of your anguish. Explore this nightmarish world of twisted religion and discover its many secrets hidden deep inside. Use devastating combos and brutal executions to smite the hordes of grotesque monsters and titanic bosses, all ready to rip you limb from limb. Locate and equip relics, rosary beads and prayers that call on the powers of the heavens to aid you in your quest to break your eternal damnation.
Quite the contrary. The game we are reminded most of are the equally brutal and almost-scary Souls games, which put a heavy emphasis on crowd-control, enemy prioritization and heavy hits. And of course great boss fights. After being unveiled just two months ago, the announcement that Blasphemous is coming out next month already is truly a welcome change for gamers who have grown accustomed to long waiting periods, regularly reaching several years.
With a great price at only $24.99 and releasing on every gaming platform under the sun, there really is no reason not to be happy.
