Blizzard’s Titan ‘unlikely to be subscription-based MMORPG’

It's look like Activision Blizzard's secret project, codenamed Titan, will not be a subscription-based MMORPG. During the company's financial call today, Activision CEO Mike Morhaime provided a very brief update on the game, which underwent a dramatic re-envisioning back in May. It seems the company is still brainstorming.

"We're in the process of selecting a new direction for the project and re-envisioning what we want the game to be," Morhaime said. "While we can't talk about the details yet, it is unlikely to be a subscription-based MMORPG."

Morhaime reiterated that some of Titan's developers have been shifted to other projects like Blizzard All-Stars. Previously, it was believed that over 100 developers were working on the mysterious project. Titan still has no release date, though expectations are for a 2016 launch.

In the meantime, Blizzard has teased a "special announcement" which will be made at Gamescom later this month. Though they didn't hint as to what it could be, there are a number of projects in Blizzard's pipeline including Diablo 3 for consoles, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, and StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void.
